Aimee Mann has filed a big lawsuit against a little-known company with serious clout in the digital music business. As the Hollywood Reporter points out, the singer-songwriter has slapped MediaNet, prevously known as MusicNet, with a copyright-infringement lawsuit seeking $18 million in damages. Never heard of MediaNet? That just demonstrates how complicated the music industry has become in the streaming era.

I hope she DOES score big on this one, simply because it will help all of us bring to light these little unknown media controllers that get to hide behind the bigger, more well known entities.
Perhaps Amy should make this a Class Action and invite others who share this digital royalty battle? This collective could help enable a stronger voice to ensure artists are properly compensated for their creative works, and reinforce that artists’ rights and royalties must be taken seriously..
